Core Principles

The following principles underpin all AI-related guidance issued by Chapman University IS&T. They draw from nationally recognized frameworks, including the AAUP, ACM, and IEEE ethics guidelines.

• Transparency — Disclose when and how AI tools were used in producing work.
• Accuracy — Verify AI-generated content before use; AI can and does produce errors.
• Equity — Ensure the use of AI does not disadvantage any student, staff member, or faculty member.
• Privacy — Never submit personally identifiable or sensitive institutional data to external AI tools.
• Attribution — Credit sources and acknowledge AI contributions in accordance with disciplinary norms.
